Rural Workforce Law and Policy Project

Exposing gaps in law and policy that affect the health, safety, and dignity of rural food system workers.

Farmworkers form the backbone of a trillion-dollar industry in the United States. Yet they face a level of occupational risk unrivaled by most workers, from repeated exposure to pesticides and extreme heat to injuries from machinery and repetitive motion. These challenges are compounded by a lack of access to healthcare and legal services, substandard housing, low wages, marginalization, and language barriers.

CAFS launched the Rural Workforce Law and Policy Project in 2021 to provide resources addressing federal and state laws that pertain to farmworkers.
